DIGITAL BOTANICALS BLOSSOM
Bombay Sapphire AR Packaging
- Integrated Marketing Coordinator
In 2017, as a Marketing Coordinator on Shazam’s integrated marketing team, I played a key role in bringing Bombay Sapphire’s augmented reality (AR) packaging to life through our collaboration with Zappar. This project aimed to elevate the iconic Bombay Sapphire bottle by integrating an interactive AR experience, providing customers with an engaging and educational journey through the botanicals used in the gin’s creation.
By scanning the bottle label through the Shazam app, customers unlocked immersive animations representing each of the botanicals—like juniper berries, angelica root, and cassia bark—enhanced by rich soundscapes. As part of the user journey, the AR experience culminated with a 360-degree video tour of the Laverstoke distillery, showcasing the brand’s craftsmanship and heritage. This cutting-edge use of AR helped bridge the physical and digital worlds, offering users a multi-sensory experience and bringing the brand’s story directly into their hands.
My role involved supporting the content ideation and ensuring the AR storytelling reflected Bombay Sapphire’s premium and creative identity. The activation was especially impactful in 2017, as AR technology was beginning to gain traction, and it provided a scalable, frictionless way to engage customers directly through the packaging, giving the brand a competitive edge in the spirits market.
This campaign was not only a testament to the power of AR in packaging but also underscored the importance of interactive brand experiences in driving consumer engagement and brand loyalty.
